Holiday 2012

We are glad to be back home from our holiday. It was a 3-week long break and we had a great time. Families and friends were there to welcome us and there was never a time we felt idle. Truly, there is no place like home. I was able to see my sister and her family whom I haven't seen for almost 5 years. Our little boys are now grown up, though there are times they were a bit off each other but most of the time they play and sometimes gave each other hugs and kisses.

Hubby and I together with our baby spent our mornings at the mall together. Then me and our son would go my mom's place so he could play with his cousins. Hubby stayed at the hotel going to the gym, sauna, swim or read his books. It was a good arrangement that we were able to do our own things. All in all, it was a holiday that we really enjoyed. Now we are looking forward to our next time and who knows when it is going to be.

I am so pleased that our little man knows his alphabet and their sounds. I even heard him saying the days of the week yesterday as I was doing chores. Here it comes again. The time when people put a lot of effort in making their houses look scary. Spider toys here, toy skulls there, eerie music and all there is that people can think of during Halloween. For me it is more fun than scary. Seeing cute little children dressed up in different costumes of their liking. Some wear scary costumes, some wear funny Halloween costumes and some wear fairy tale costumes. My husband would put a scary toy decoration in the boot of the car that always catches every children's attention. He also put another toy cut-off head on a box surrounded by tomato sauce as blood, and a small chainsaw beside it. It looked really scary. But our little man was so young then, didn't know what was happening, sucking his dummy in his bouncer ,he was only 2 months old on his first Halloween. Last year he was wearing a Dracula costume that I had to adjust so it fits him perfectly. Our little man had a great time, wandering in the neighbourhood holding his basket. Oh how I loved looking at him enjoying it. I hope I could get a nice costume for him this year as he is a lot older and surely would have more fun than last year. Put the thinking cap on mommy!

Sewing clothes is what I have been wanting to do for a long time. I regret not learning about sewing from my grandma who was good in sewing clothes. As a challenge to myself, I decided to make a fireman outfit for our son on his birthday. As I didn't know how to use an electric sewing machine, I made the outfit by hand. It was a real challenge but I was so determined to do it. I just measured the clothes our son is wearing now and use it as my pattern. Watching television show is one of the things our son loves to do. I have heard some stories about parents not wanting their children to watch television. Playschool were on tour doing their concerts last month and our little man was lucky to watch it. He was so excited watching plenty of kids of different ages wandering round the place. But when the show started, he got scared of the loud music and the noise the children made. I had to pacify him and assured him it was all okay, then he felt better and started clapping and dancing with everybody and even went in front, near the stage. It was so nice watching our little man enjoying the show. I hope we get to see some more playschool shows in the future.

The trip to see the radio telescope in Parkes in April was aborted, as our car almost got bogged when we were only a few meters away from it. It was pouring with rain that day and our GPS took us on the fastest route and almost got bogged and we had to quickly get out of there or else we will be stuck forever . I was so upset. We were only a few meters away but we decided to just get back home and forget about seeing the telescope. But I knew in my heart I will see it again.

Last month we went to see the snow and decided to go for a drive heading north. I was so delighted when my husband said we might be able to see the Radio Telescope as it was on the way to Dubbo zoo, where we wanted to go so our little man could see animals. Yippee! Finally, we got to see one of the telescopes used when the man first landed on the moon. It was part of the history and looking at it in person was great. The telescope was huge and it has got fence around it so people could just see from a distance. It is still being used and it changes its angle every now and then.

I am so thankful to my dear husband who always think about my happiness and for always taking us to wonderful places in this land down under.

One of the things I have dreamt about for a long time was to experience being in a snow. Luckily, there are snowy mountains in Australia. I have waited 3 long years to see snow and it was worth the wait. We had a ball, especially we have our little one with us plus our friends were there too.

The drive to the snowy mountains from our place was six hours but it was a smooth and enjoyable journey. We had a couple of stops for coffee and stretching break and back on the road again. As we were getting near to our destination, we could see the snow-capped mountains and oh boy they were beautiful.

We had to be on a ski-tube for ten to fifteen minutes. The journey seemed like forever due to my excitement to see the snow. Finally, the train came to a halt and we were there, surrounded by snow.. it was amazing! We could see people skiing, tobogganing and some just walking like robots with their ski gears on. There were plenty of snow Mobil's, one took us to our lodge where we stayed for a couple of days.

We got to experience being on a chairlift to get to the top of the mountain and it was so scary, especially when it came to a stop and were swinging in the air. Seeing people right below us skiing from the top of the mountain going down. Gosh, they were brave! I could never imagine myself doing it ehehehe!

I can say it was one experience I will always treasure as it was a dream come true. Thanks to my wonderful husband and son who made the experience more fun and enjoyable!

One of the best parts of our trip was seeing the fine collection of classic and vintage cars. Feeters museum is a two-storey building and home to about 60 cars and some motorbikes. I can say it is one of places people can go to in Forbes , New South Wales. The owners were so nice to us. Even asked us if we wanted to have photos taken inside the cars. This year's launch of the V8's supercars series was held at the Eastern Creek Sydney Racetrack. The National Sports Museum is the place worth going if you happen to be in or planning to go to Melbourne. There you get to see all the achievements of Australians in the world of Sports. From archery to swimming, boxing, cricket, netball, basketball, cycling and all the sports you can think of. Medals, awards, videos, even the clothes the champions wore were among the things on display. Unfortunately, photography is not allowed in most areas. For whatever reason they have for doing it, I totally understand. One of the things that really caught my attention was the videos of Ian Thorpe and his team mates in the swimming competition. I could never get my eyes of the TV showing the highlights of the 2000 Olympics Swimming competition, which was held here in Sydney. Even asked my husband if we could stay there for a little while. I could feel the excitement and the thrill even if it happened more than a decade ago. I hope one day I could watch an Olympic swimming competition in person. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The museum got an interactive sports area where you get to play archery, netball, cricket and a lot more. Photography was allowed in this area so that was a good thing, which gave me the chance to have a photo taken with the picture of my favorite Stephanie Rice, an Australian swimming champion, showing her actual height. I hope to see her in person one day. Whew! it was a tour I really enjoyed.

The Tutankhamun exhibit at Melbourne Museum, in Victoria Australia was a great thing to experience. The decision to book our tickets in advance was a blessing, as we saw plenty of people in the museum queuing up just to see the exhibit. A bag with book, dvd, cards and pen were given to us as part of the tickets purchased. There we got to see things that were in the tomb of Tutankhamun which were only discovered in early twenties. I was amazed that people in his time were able to make things with such great detail for their King. Oh by the way, Tutankhamun is pronounced " Tutankhanmoon '.

Tutankhamun died at such a young age and only ruled Egypt for more than 10 years. The cause of his death is still unknown up to now. Some research says that he was in his mid twenties when he died. He was married to Ankhesunamun, and in his tomb they found two female fetus which believed to be his daughters, which means he had no heir/heiress to his throne. Tutankhamun's death was unexpected and the tomb prepared for was not finished yet. Still his tomb, which was prepared bye his successor Aye, was filled with things which indicates that he was the Lord of two lands, high priest of Gods and as the commander in chief of the army.

I feel really lucky to have been able to see the exhibit. Not everybody gets the chance to experience an exhibit as interesting as Tutankhamun's. This experience has made me interested about the life and death of the Boy King of Egypt Tutankhamun.

After so many weeks of waiting, finally the wedding of the century came and it was done well. Reports said that 2 billion people were watching the wedding of the century and I was one them. Hundreds of thousands of people were waiting patiently for the wedding to take place. Some even camped for days just to get a glimpse of the future king and queen of Britain.

I must say it was well organized and planned which the royal family is good at. Guests arrived at the church an hour before the wedding. Three thousand guests witnessed the ceremony inside Westminster Abbey and they were all dressed beautifully and smart. Celebrities, politicians, business people and the couple's close friends and families were seen at the wedding.

The moment Prince William's car was seen coming out of Clarence house sent the crowd screaming and chanting. He was dressed in red soldier costume and boy he looked really great. Prince Harry, his brother who was the best man, was beside him in the car heading their way to the church where they had a few minutes talking to their guests. The Middletons looked happy when they arrived at the church, followed by the arrival of Queen Elizabeth and her husband Prince Philip.

Not long after the queen's arrival at the church Kate Middleton, the bride, got inside the car from the hotel with her dad. She looked so pretty in her classy and elegant wedding gown. A simple yet loving lady which has captured the heart of the public and is now a household name. She waved to the crowd and smiling happily beside her loving dad. Prince William was waiting at the altar beside her brother when Kate arrived at the church. Prince Harry looked back and said to his brother "here she comes"that was so sweet! The walk from the door to the altar was more than two minutes and she did it gracefully and she looked so happy. Prince William whispered to Kate "you looked so lovely"the moment she got to the altar. What a lovely sight!

The ceremony lasted an hour with choir singing beautiful songs. How lovely it is to see two people tie a knot? It was something that the whole world celebrated. It only shows that love is powerful. People were partying on the streets, happy that the future king has found the love of his life.

May they stay happy and in love forever! It won't be as easy as they are living a very public life, but with God's grace, they will be able to surpass all the challenges ahead of them.

Melbourne Trip- Day Two

Melbourne city at daytime

Everybody had a good night's sleep and it was time to hit the road again to find a place for breakfast. Eden was not too far away from Merimbula and that's where we found a place to eat and refuel. Like a typical country breakfast, we were served with fresh and delicious food. Bacon and eggs on toast. Yummy!

We were spoilt on our first day with nice, sunny weather the next day was gloomy and raining. Still we were able to enjoy our journey. After a few hours on the road, we had to eat again and do some stretching. Lunch time was spent on a picnic area by the lake. We saw geese, seagulls and other animals roaming around with their offsprings. The rain has stopped but the cold wind was something we didn't expect.. Brrrrr! My little one's nose was dripping, I had to follow him everytime with tissue, while he having fun in the play area. We shared sausage rolls, sandwiches, cheese and fruits for lunch.

Whew! it was nice to be back in the car again where it's warm. We only had a few hours on the road and Melbourne... here we come! Our little GPS friend was excellent. One of the roads we were on was closed and we directed to another way. The road signs were confusing but the GPS took us back on the right track. Yippee!

At around 5:00 pm, we finally arrived at the hotel we stayed for almost a week. It was a nice, cozy hotel and we were located on the 40th floor overlooking the beautiful city of Melbourne. After all our luggages were sent to our room, we were able to lie down and have a nice rest. It was a long, enjoyable two days on the road. Finally, we reached our destination safely. Thanks to my wonderful husband who was a very good driver!

Melbourne Trip- Day One

Fitzroy waterfall

Our trip down to Melbourne started on Saturday the 9th of April. We drove down by car, as we'd like to see places on the way. The trip down to Bowral, New South Wales only took us less than 2 hours. Perfect timing for our little coffee break and also to let our little one run around and for us adults to do some stretching. Something we really need after being in the car for 2 hours. It's just a shame we could not find restrooms in the area so we had to be on the road again looking for restrooms along the way.

Back on the road again and we got to see great views of the country side, we saw the sign post for rest area and luckily it was not to far from Fitzroy falls. Yippee! It was my first time to see a waterfall. Whew it was so high! We were on a platform which was designed so people can also see what is underneath. I was just in awe. The waterfall was more that 600 feet high with the view of the mountains. I had a great time!

We had to go back in the car again and find a place to have our little picnic. Mollymook was a prefect place for it. We found a little shed facing the beach and had our yummy lunch prepared by my mother-in-law.

Our little GPS friend was a great help. The road was smooth and no traffic at all. At around 5 pm we reach our destination for the night in Merimbula. It was a long day but it was good. After a wonderful dinner at a Chinese restaurant, we headed back to our rooms and went to bed early for the second stage of our road trip.

Setting foot in Australia 3 years ago was one of the wonderful things I have ever experienced. This is the country I have been wanting to visit and now I am living here. Australia is such a beautiful country with beautiful people. I cannot complain. I have met a lot of nice friends and of course I have a wonderful family who makes me feel so loved and makes everything easy.

I so love the green leafy suburb we are living in and I feel so close to nature. Birds and other animals we could see from our veranda. People are educated not to kill animals nor cut trees as they are part of our environment. Here I have learned how to appreciate life more and be thankful for all the blessings I receive, be it small or big. Never have I experience being so lonely and too far away from my family back home. Probably because I have come to realize that I should be happy wherever I am in this world as God has a plan for me. With the help of my husband and family here and internet of course. I can say life is great.

Garden Festival

Another day out for the whole family again on Sunday and it was great. A garden festival was held in an place not too far from where we live. There were some good plants on display and some gardening stuff. Though it was not as good as the last time, where they had bands and a lot of places where you could have coffee, but it was a day out with family so it was great. Our little man got the chance to go inside a fire truck, and also his first time to go on a pony ride.

Australian Reptile Park, New South Wales

Our excursion to the Australian Reptile Park was a long time in coming. We always drove past it plenty of times and finally it came for our visit. It was a 30-minute drive along the freeway to get there from our place. The road was a smooth a four lane freeway. Thanks to my dear husband who drove safely. Once we arrived some tourists had gathered near the front gates, it goes to show that it is a famous place. There was a short walk in the forest to get to the reception for people who are using wheelchairs and prams. I have noticed the electified fences to keep some animals in and some out. Koalas, birds, owls, kangaroos, dingo, tortoise, echidna, lizards, spiders, snakes were some of the animals they are taking care of . Alligators were kept in a big pond and there was a commotion as we walked by the pond. Probably, fighting for a prime resting area.

A talking parrot in an enclosure said 'hello' as we walked towards the picnic area. Emus, kangaroos and ducks were some of the animals roaming about the enclosure. Our little man was not scared of the animals and even got close to the emus while they were being fed by some tourists. One animal caught my attention being fed by a staff member in its enclosure. It was a tortoise with a strange-looking shell. The staff member reckons the temperature affected the shell of the tortoise when it was still inside the egg. Still that tortoise was still lucky to have animal-loving people taking care of it. We had coffee after awhile and feast our eyes with the beauty of nature around us. Fresh air, blue sky, tall tress and roaming friendly animals were things we truly love watching. Such a beautiful world!

We continued wandering around after our little break heading towards some more enclosed animals. Some people were working on an area where wombats are kept and not far from it was a wallaby licking its fur could be seen. An old kangaroo was resting in the shade and we could only stare at it from a distance as we were scared it would attack us. Suddenly, an announcement was heard on the PA saying there would be a reptile show in a few minutes. We went to see it and I got the chance to touch a lizard that was held by one of the staff there. After awhile he was holding a snake releasing venom into a cup. The show was informative and creating awareness for people especially kids to love animals.

Going to the reptile park is one thing I would recommend people who are looking for places to see in New South Wales. It is a place where you can feel and see the beauty of nature and leave the frenzy of the busy city life behind.

Humalog for Diabetics

Diabetes runs in our family. My paternal grandmother had it and got blind from it. I know diabetes is a genetic disorder that could affect me or my kids in the future. Too bad my father-in-law has got diabetes as well. So the chance my kids having it are higher. We are lucky that we are born in this era where treatments and preventions are available.

It is costly to get medicines and pills for diabetes like any other diseases, but you can buy cheap humalog and save some money. Generic pills are inexpensive and it has got the same ingredients as the branded ones but generic humalog are not available yet. So beware!

Humalog is now regulary taken by my father-in-law. He is eating healthy food and is still in good spirits. We love him so much and we want him to be happy inspite of his condition. Jenolan Caves, New South Wales, Australia

It was a beautiful day perfect for our trip to Jenolan caves on Tuesday. We were halfway, about an hour and a half, into our journey when we decided to put some food in our tummy and do a little bit of stretching at Wattle cafe. Our little man enjoyed watching the trucks, buses and cars driving past while having his babycinno and raisin toast. My husband and myself had cappucino and hot chocolate respectively.

Cloud started to come over and it rained as we got back onto the road again. Then it was foggy and we could not see anything fifty meters from us. We had to slow down to suit the condition. The view was amazing in the countryside. Sheep, cattles, pine trees, little houses and the valleys were a joy to see. The final stretch towards Jenolan caves was scary as the roads were tight. Cliffs on our left as we drove down to the caves. I cannot help but admire how people in this country made life easier for them. Road markings and signs, mirrors along the road to see approaching cars on the other side of the cliff and so much more.

The entrance to the grand arch was breathtaking. It was a huge spacious area used as an assembly area for every tour then narrows to a road that could just fit one car. It was only a few meters until we reached an area for accomodations, refreshments parking and offices.

It was lucky as the next tour was only ten minutes away when we arrived. The tour was guided by a smallish, cheerful woman and after a few minutes of orientation we headed towards the Chifely caves. The caves were lit by few lights and it has got proper stairs and railings. I learned that Chifley caves was the first cave to have colored lights, to make it more dramatic, it was indeed amazingly dramatic. It was my first time to be in a cave and I was in awe. Nature truly shows it's beauty in wonderful ways. I just savoured each moment inside the cave, taking snaps of what was around us. Good dear husband of mine volunteered to carry our little man most of the time we were inside the cave.

Over all it was an experience I will never forget and will always treasure. God makes this earth a wonderful place to live and I consider myself lucky that I was able to see one of his wonderful creations underground.

My 19-month old little boy

Yipppeeeee! My son has turned 19 months today. How time flies? I am lucky to be able to take care of my son since the day he was born. Not all mothers got a chance to be with their babies as some has to go back to work after a few weeks. Watching my son's growth and development is one thing I am always thankful for. He has grown into a wonderful baby. Though sometimes he is testing my patience. I love him with all my heart but not to the extent of spoiling him. I just want to thank our creator for giving me and my husband a wonderful baby who makes our lives worth living for.

He can now do these things:

Pats my back when I am a bit sore.

Kisses and hugs me tight.

Can say plenty of words like shark, sharp, duck, moon, plane, soap, dark among other words

Gives his grandpas walking stick everytime he sees it.

Helps us put away things every after meal.

Loves to be in the garden- digging, watering the plants, pulling and pushing the lawnmower.

Can now memorize all the words in his book. We are asked to read almost 15 books a day-whew!

Turns the lights on and off for me.

Earthquake and Tsunami hit Japan

An unbelievable devastation it was. First an 8.9 magnitude earthquake struck and hours later a 10 meter high tsunami hit some areas in Japan. The devastation the tsunami caused was amazing. Watching the footages on tv when it happened was terrible. Cars, buses, and buildings were tossed and turned by a huge wave of black water. There was a smoke coming out from a building and people rushing out to safe grounds. Also a huge fire engulf an oil refinery in another area. The nation's trains and nuclear power plants were automatically shut down.

We all know Japan is prepared for earthquakes. Their buildings and temples are designed to withstand for when an earthquake happens. But how can you be prepared for a tsunami? It is something I don't think anybody can be prepared for. Nothing can get in its way.

The death toll is now around 350 and it could go up to more than a thousand. A lot of people are still missing. A tsunami warning was also declared in the Pacific and some countries in South America. I was chatting to a friend in Japan when it happened and she told me as we spoke it was still shaking were she was. She got her backpack ready and just waiting to be told what to do or where to go.

Australia and USA are some of the countries I know that offered and sent help to the Japanese people. It will be a long and massive rescue and recovery operation. I just hope that God will help our affected Japanese brothers and sisters in these time of need. Especially those who have lost their loved ones.

Rain and it's importance

How many of us appreciates rain? To some it's too much of a hasstle as they need to bring rain protection going to work, or school. Some dislike rain when they want to put their washing out or is planning to have a party in their backyard.

But do we really know how important the rain is? Rain for me is a blessing. I like watching and listening to the music it makes. It helps our plants and trees grow and most of all it gives us water to drink. Our nature is a wonderful thing to see because of rain's contribution to it's existence. Just imagine if it doesn't rain for a long time. Our catchment's water level will drop a significant amount. Trees and plants around us will look dry and unhealthy. We are lucky to be able to enjoy rain as some other countries are longing for rain to come for their survival.

Rain is important. It is not as nuisance as others might think moreover it is a great help for our existence.

Yehey! In a few weeks time. I will get to see the beautiful place in Melbourne. It is a place in Australia where a lot of sporting events are happening. From the Melbourne Cup to Australian Open and many more. This is the trip I am really looking forward to as we are going to see the exhibit of the Egypt's boy king Tutankhamun. Mummies, weapons and other stuff found in his resting place during the time of the pharaohs will be on exhibit

Not only that we will also get to see the 12 apostles located a few hours drive away from Melbourne. Lucky girl, ain't I? I am just so pleased that I was able to find a website where I could choose where I want to go, as my husband asked me to do some research of interesting places in Melbourne. I will share some photos of our trip in due time, so you could see that beautiful part of Australia, which I call my home.

The answer is simple. Give your plant TLC ( tender, love and care ). I used to get frustrated because seemed like everything I tried to grow were not successful. I just planted them, watered them for a few days and forgot about them after a while. A lot of things to do which made me forgot my plants which needed my attention.

Now, I always try to get out in the garden to water my plants in the morning and in the afternoon. Weeding around them and make sure they get enough water as our soil here is a little bit sandy. I find it relaxing and it makes me feel good afterwards. Looking at our beautiful garden.

Nothing compares to having your own vegetables from the garden. You are assured no nasties have been sprayed on them. Giving your plants TLC is all worth it because they will give you good produce in return. Happy gardening everyone!

Yes, I do have a great mom. I am so proud to be her daughter. She is the kind of woman who always think of others welfare, especially her children, than her own. A proud grandma. A prayerful person who never fails to remind us always about faith in God. She is not a perfect mom, but she did a great job in raising six children. A wonderful school teacher who has inspired and is still inspiring students.

I love my mom so much and will continue to love her till the end of time. May you always be healthy and happy. Looking forward to seeing you here in my second home mom. I love you!

Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary 2 Ships

I am fortunate to have seen two of the biggest ships in the world. I am still in awe of how huge they were. Especially when we drove along the road where the Queen Mary 2 docked. I was torn between taking photos and looking at it as we drove past it. Luckily, my lovely husband said we could drive past it again. It was like a jaw-dropping experience for me. Looking at it with my own eyes was unbelievable.

We could have stopped and have a closer look and admire it's beauty but then we couldn't find a parking space. Oh well, I still consider myself lucky. Having them here is a boost to our economy. Tourist flocked into the city for this once in a lifetime chance. These two ladies are seldom seen together dock on a harbour.

Earthquake hits Christchurch New Zealand

What a bad news it was? We just arrived from the city, amazed by the size Queen Mary 2 and Queen Elizabeth ships, when we saw on tv around 12 noon today, that the beautiful city of Christchurch in New Zealand once again experienced earthquake. They say it was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake.

I was moved by how rescuers and other individuals help the victims. The city had run out of ambulances so people were using their own cars to take victims to the nearest hospitals. A woman got rescued from a building that collapsed, another man managed to get out after being stuck on the fourth flour with five others. He thought they would be stuck there for a long time.

Intense aftershocks were still felt, and it was a scary thought for those people and rescuers who are trying to rescue people from the rubble. I was teary-eyed watching footages on tv. People covered with blood, some waiting for their family members to contact them. Sadly, phonelines and other communication means were affected as well.

The latest report says that 65 people were confirmed dead and the toll is expected to rise as the hours go by. I pray for strength and hope for Christchurch people to face this tragedy.

A child's helping hand

Gardening is one of the things we do at home. We do it always as our little one loves to be outside, only if the weather permits. It is such a fun thing for him. Digging, watering the plants, running around, playing with his toys. A wonderful sight to see our son enjoying his time outside the four corners of our humble home.

One afternoon, when me and my husband did some gardening. As usual the little man was with us, getting dirty with trowel in his hand, a little worker as we call him. Our lawn was already mown, then our son suddenly pushed the lawn mower with all his might. My husband and myself were shocked. How could an 18-month old boy push a thing almost three times his weight? I tried to stop him, worried that he might hurt himself, but he didn't want me too. He was having fun, and even pushed his dad's hand away when his dad tried to help him. The funny thing was, he signaled to his dad that he would like to wear a hat before pushing the lawn mower again.

We just let him have a go with his "new toy". For sure, he will have a good night sleep, we thought, which he did. What a strong boy our little son is? Only a little man who is such a great company and help to us.
